timed assesment

Designer-Naomi Parson
Hair Stylist-Georgina Baird

When looking at Naomi's design I felt confident and capable of doing it, we added to it in the test run of the assessment and the outcome was amazing. however on the day of the assessment things didn't really go to plan! I placed the parting to closes to the canter, and when I realised this to rectifie it I lost a valuable amount of time.
I am really disappointed in my hair assessment, because I know I can do a thousand times better especially as hair is like second nature to me. I also feel as if I let my partner down in the proses.
Iv learnt from this to just take to blows in my stride and to give myself enough time for any complications that may arise.

pictures from practice to the timed assessment
I was really pleased with this.

timed assesment

Designer- Georgina Baird
Hair stylist- Naomi Parsons
The run up to the timed assessment myself and Naomi had a fare share of practice on each other which helped immensely. Naomi was really calm, and took my design in her stride and the execution of it was really good. we expanded on my design by twisting a couple of plaits around my neck just to give the design an extra edge as it felt even with the huge crown that it was still missing something.
i think looking back on it know my design didn't really have the in depth difficulty compared to others, but a lot of time was preparing the hair and trying to get it to stay slick against my head.I really enjoyed working along side with Naomi as we both helped each other expand on our designs and ideas and its refreshing to partner up with someone who isn't scared to take my ideas in there stride.

practice for timed assesment

Practice for timed assessments are this week, its daunting in two ways, first its proof that our first semester has flown by right before my eyes and second i'm dramatically trying to horn all the skills learnt over the last weeks and throw them in to my creating and designs.

So me and Naomi set to work on her design. It was really fun to actually feel like I can be creative this week and not necessarily follow the guidelines. Naomi wasn't so sure of her design so we had a play around and were both really chuffed with the out come.

Heres some pics of the first attempt. She's a really good partner to have, she's really easy and clear in her instructions and that is just valuable at a time like this!

Queen Elizabeth I (Cate Blanchett), Tilbury Speech

this part in the film really is my fav, you see Elizabeth in her finest and strongest here. Her hair has a warrior feel to it, and also is a screaming ad to everyone that she is "the virgin queen".

My final hair design step by step

The first portrait of Elizabeth I on her coronation and also Dolce and Gabbana inspires my finale design.
I really have a love for avant garde hair and feel it shows though my designs and out come.

·      Start with making a perfect section though the middle
·      With the first side section to the ear, use Bobbie pins to secure flat to the head. This will be sprayed down and twisted into place so the section needs to be neat!
·      Half this section to ensure the hair is saturated with water and hairspray
·      Once done blast off and move on to the second section
·      Repeat on other side.
·      With crimpers go though the rest of the hair
·      Then back comb
·      Add three messy plaits
·      And finally add the crown

Contempary inspiration

For my contemporary inspiration i'm using Lady Gaga, here at the glamour womens awards she is wearing one of Thom Browns outfits from his spring'14 collection that i have blogged about on a previous post. She also has the resemblance of the Elizabethan portrait iv chosen as my elizabethan inspiration.
I really want to go in a different direction for my hair design. I'm a bit bored of seeing the typical heart shape hair up so i'm thinking of having hair down centre parting and a lot of frizz going on.

inspirations for finale design and designs

After researching both contemporary and traditional Elizabethan looks i've reached a point in my design ideas were I want to portray both venerability and virginaty with an underling of richness in the final outcome.

So very different to that of the tony and guy aventgarde hair styles but i love the slickness and center parting.
